First of all, you should know what snoring is, besides loud and disruptive while trying to sleep. It is simply the narrowing of the airway for the amount of air that is trying to get through during sleep. It can be narrowed due to sleep position, poor sleep posture, or abnormalities of the tissues in your throat. Your tongue can also be a part of the culprit of why you snore.
Some people snore because it is in the genes. It is an abnormality passed down through generations. Also, age can contribute to snoring. Your throat becomes more narrow as you age. Allergies can also cause snoring to occur perhaps only during certain times of the year. Being overweight, smoking and drinking can also be culprits to cause snoring to occur. All of the reasons listed basically boil down to the fact that the muscle tone in the throat decreases and causes the sound of snoring.
If you can identify the cause, you can generally find snoring cures. There are snoring cures that can be effective. It may take some diligence on your part to try these steps to stop the snoring.
If you are overweight, perhaps losing weight will help. If you sleep on your back, the airways become more narrow, so try sleeping on your side. If sleeping on your back is not something you can give up, try elevating the head of your bed. It may help open the air passages and allow air to flow through easier. Alcohol can be a contributor to snoring. Avoid alcohol close to bedtime so that the muscles will not relax too much and contribute to snoring while sleeping.
Some medications such as sleep aids, may keep you or someone else awake because they may cause you to snore as well. They help your throat muscles relax just like your other muscles. Snoring cures can be made by just changing some habits that you have, and surgery may not be necessary.
