Many people who wake up frequently at night to urinate will most likely assume they’ve either drunk a few gallons of beer before bedtime or if it’s a man think of prostate problems causing the problem. And in many cases they might be right but a new study now suggests that Sleep Apnea could also be a cause of this nocturia (frequent urination at night).
This means that it may help doctors diagnose sleep apnea by screening patients for nocturia not something that has been thought of before.
Neither snoring or the presence of nocturia can proof conclusively that a person suffers from Sleep Apnea but they are both a good indicator and shouldn’t be ignored.
The old well established reasons for frequent bathroom visits during the night such as diabetes and prostate problems are still valid but it looks like we can add another reason into the mix of things that can disturb your sleep (although if you live with a snorer I think you’d agree a partner snoring has to be the biggest one!)
As always if you suspect you may suffer from any of the above conditions go and speak to your health professional.
