If your partner tells you that you snore, maybe you don’t think it’s a big deal. Well, maybe it’s not. It might just be the kind of minor annoyance that sometimes surfaces, sometimes leads to a bit of noise in the house at night.

Maybe that’s the case.

On the other hand, maybe it’s a little more serious than that. Maybe, just maybe, your family is tiptoeing around the subject, laughing about it together. Here’s an example of what the experience can be like for a family, as captured by Amy Armstrong of Illinois. We don’t tend to link to things much on here, but this is a very good example of the kind of thing which the families of snorers have to put up with. And thanks to Amy and the magic of Youtube, her husband’s snoring has now been captured forever:

This reminds me very much of a time I lived in a shared house with a gentleman who was a very loud snorer. His was the bedroom above the living room, and a lot of nights, I would be sat up late watching a film or something on TV, and generally in those situations I keeping people up with the noise I was making.

Of course, living with this guy, I knew that I didn’t have to worry. I could hear the evidence that he was still fast asleep, loud and rasping through the floorboards. It was funny, really, but it was also, I’m guessing, a little embarrassing for him. I remember one time friends of mine were round, and actually heard him snoring away at night. No-one said anything to him afterwards, but I’m willing to bet that he’d rather not have been a source of fun. He did, eventually, do something about it.

Coincidentally, a few months later, he started going out with a very attractive girl. I’m not linking the fact that he finally did something about his snoring directly to that event, but I’m sure the fact that he wasn’t audible through walls certainly helped matters! What’s more, once that issue was sorted out, it maybe helped him to gain some confidence.

If you’re that guy, snoring away, then maybe you should think about looking into a Snoring Aid. Before you end up on Youtube, too.

There are a lot of different snoring aids out there on the market, and each different type is effective in its own way. Not every product is effective, of course, and some are better made than others, but by and large there’s a lot of good anti-snoring aids available to the snoring sufferer. It’s a common experience, however, that someone will buy a proven anti-snoring aid or try a widely recommended method, only to find that it just doesn’t work for them.

Is this because there’s some people can’t be helped? Not at all. It’s because some people aren’t trying the anti-snoring aid which works for them. Everyone is different, and whilst snoring is fairly well understood and easily alleviated, the reasons and ways a person can snore are different, and each product will achieve different things. Here, then, is an overview of the different kinds of anti-snoring aid which we can use, and what each one can do for us.

The anti-snoring pillow: it is for the person who sleeps with their head at an unusual angle, causing a constriction in the breathing passages. It holds the head up comfortably, in a position where they can breath without obstruction.

Nasal strips: these tapes go over the nose and keep the airways open, letting you breathe more easily through the nose and keeping air flow away from the soft tissues of the mouth. This can also help if you have quite narrow nasal passages, or tend to ‘whistle’ through the nose as you sleep.

The anti-snoring chin strap: this stops the jaw from lolling and hanging open, pressurising the throat. If you are a ’slack-jawed’ snorer (often one of the loudest kinds!) then this will hold the jaw in a more natural and comfortable position even when all the muscles of the throat are relaxed.

There are others, such as adjustable beds, sprays, and even hypnotic devices. These first three, however, are the most widely used and generally effective anti-snoring treatments out there.

If you sleep with a snorer, you are entitled to a lot of sympathy and understanding – and so is the snorer.

Snoring, it is claimed, affects around 24% of men and 13 – 14% of women and this rises to about 60% of men and 40% of women over the age of 60 years. It is one of the main causes of sleep deprivation both for the snorer and the unfortunate people who happen to be within earshot. If the snorer is not woken up by his own snoring, the chances are he will be awoken by his sleeping companion or even by a next door neighbour, if the walls between the dwellings are not soundproof. Mind you, banging on the wall sometimes only adds to the noise and the neighbour’s fury at having to listen to all the snorts and peculiar noises emanating from next door!

However, the main victim is normally the poor sleeping partner or room- mate. So learning how to stop snoring at night is important for harmony in the household!

Picture the scene: It has been a long, hard day. Work did not go well and there didn’t seem to be any let-up in the pressure. You miss your bus and have to wait half hour in the rain for another one – and then you have to stand.

You get home to find that HE is late also, the children are hungry and squabbling but of course lacked the common sense to start getting the evening meal ready. (The fact that the dinner is in your shopping bag is beside the point!).

So you get cracking, cook dinner and are just about to serve it when the love of your life arrives home, sits down to a nice meal (never giving a thought as to how it got onto the table!) and starts telling you what a terrible day he’s had. Then he adjourns to the other room, puts the TV on and promptly falls asleep; the kids go off to do their own thing and you are left with the bomb-site to clear up.

However, you don’t complain because you have decided to have a nice warm bath and an early night – something to look forward to. You make your plans known to the other members of the household who say “good for you; you do look a bit tired” and off you go for a bit of ‘me’ time, with a clear conscience and pleasant thoughts about your lovely family.

Then, tucked up cosily in bed, you are woken in the middle of the night by what sounds like an express train in the bed beside you, only to realise your beloved is lying on his back, out to the world and no amount of shaking, thumping, pushing or kicking will make him stir!

Ah well, such is life!

Learn How To Stop Snoring At Night and get a great nights sleep!

Snoring is caused when the air you breathe in when you are asleep vibrates in your throat. There are a number of reasons why the air might vibrate, but one thing that can make it worse is if you suffer from enlarged tonsils or adenoids. If these are enlarged, the flow of air is narrower and this results in your throat vibrating which then causes snoring.

As you sleep, your muscles relax and this can lead to your airway becoming narrower the narrower the airway, the louder the snore. People dont snore when they are awake because the tissues in the back of the throat are held in place by muscles. As you get older, you also tend to snore more as your muscle tone degenerates.

A multitude of prevent snoring solutions are on offer to help stop people snoring. These include practically every kind of devise that can be thought of. Weird and wonderful contraptions are on offer which promise to stop snorers from making a noise whilst they sleep, but often a simpler solution such as using extra pillows or elevating the top of the bed are the best way forward.

Drinking alcohol causes muscles to relax which can result in snoring. As alcohol can also induce deep sleep, it can make what starts as a minor problem escalate into something much worse. If you are overweight you are also more likely to snore so there is a lot to be said for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and limiting your intake of alcohol.

You know how it is, youve had a very busy day and are very tired all you can think of is a good nights sleep. Youre lying in bed, warm and comfortable and just starting to drop off to sleep. Suddenly you shoot out of bed as if youve been electrocuted yes, your dearly beloved partner has started snoring!!

Although snoring is usually treated as a bit of a joke, it can sometimes indicate that there may be a more serious medical problem. Whilst problems with tonsils, adenoids and sinuses are troublesome but not considered serious, if you stop breathing when youre asleep (sleep apnoea), this can be life threatening.

Lots of people consult their doctor to get information about what they can do to find a snoring cure. Unfortunately, unless the doctor can pin down a specific cause such as a problem with either adenoids or tonsils, or if a recognised sleep disorder such as apnoea is diagnosed, there is little that they can do apart from sympathise.

Unbelievable as it may sound, snoring may play a part when a relationship breaks down. Lack of sleep over a long period of time can affect even the strongest bond between two people and can lead to increasing arguments. In todays busy world, sleepless nights can cause problems at work as well as at home and can lead to increased stress levels.

Did you know that your snoring problems could stem from the simplest of things like the way that you sleep? What’s more, what you eat or drink two hours or less before you go to bed at night can also cause you to snore, which of course affects your quality of sleep and the sleep of the person you sleep with as well. Perhaps you have been snoring for a number of years and have tried every product available with no results and you have given up finding a Snoring Cure in disgust. If that is you, perhaps a shift in your sleeping position or changing what you do before bed might make all of the difference.

Snoring is often caused by pressure and constriction. This means that the way your neck and body are positioned has a great affect on whether you snore. A simple Snoring Cure might be as easy as rolling over. This is not effective, however, if you are already sleeping on your side, it is generally people who sleep on their backs that snore the most. You should also consider your neck position, being too scrunched up can cause an obstruction, which in turn will cause snoring. Adjust your pillow, or even better yet, purchase a pillow designed to hold your head in the right position and you might find that there is an immediate difference in your snoring.

If you already sleep on your side and use a special pillow for sleeping, then you might want to consider your habits before going to bed at night. Many people don’t realize this, but sleeping pills, medications, and drugs with antihistamines in them actually can contribute to snoring. The body is put into such a relaxed state that obstructions occur because your air passageways aren’t working the way that they should. Ask your doctor for another prescription or choose a different OTC medication before seeking another Snoring Cure because this just might work for you.

Eating certain foods and drinking alcohol before bed can also contribute to snoring. Most doctors recommend that you don’t eat anything after 7pm regardless in order to get a good nights rest, and preventing yourself from snoring is just another good reason to keep eating at a minimum in the evenings. What’s more, water is the only drink you should be drinking after 7pm. Other drinks such as soda can stimulate you, while alcohol and warm milk can make you too relaxed.

Make sure that you try to change things up at home before you start paying money for a Snoring Cure, you might be very glad that you too the time to experiment (and your wallet will be happy too).

If after trying the all the free methods you find you still snore as much as ever you may want to try the anti snoring jaw supporter. This is a device that helps keep your mouth closed while you sleep and has been shown to be very effective in helping people stop snoring.
