It has been designed to ensure you always sleep on your side and therefore can help prevent you rolling onto your back which is a well known reason for many peoples snoring problem.

It is said to:

improve your sleeping posture

Give you a great nights sleep

Help you wake up refreshed and with less stiffness

Relieves pressure on the neck

Developed by a Chiropractor

This pillow is an interesting idea that might actually work for some people although I’d imagine it would take some getting used to. At $19.99 + S&H it’s reasonably priced and although as an anti snoring aid it’s effectiveness would be limited as with all things it might just work for you.

As I’ve said before it’s always worth trying the simple, inexpensive and non invasive Snoring Cures first before moving on to the more expensive snoring aids.

According to the sales page this item isn’t available in stores but if you’re uncomfortable purchasing on-line if other products are anything to go by give it three or four months and you’ll find them everywhere.

If however you can’t wait and would like to see a video of the Snoreben in action click here.

Just when you thought it wasn’t possible to find a New Snoring Cure another one pops up. This one is called the Pillar Procedure and it involves placing polyester implants into the soft palate.

The theory is that it stiffens up the area adding support and lessening the vibrations that are known to cause snoring. This procedure is not an over the counter treatment and will require a visit to your doctor who will place the pillars into your mouth under local anesthetic. The whole proceedure only takes 20 minutes and complications after the procedure are rare at under 1%.

Results can be felt (not heard) soon afterwards but the full benefit comes some months after the proceedure as surronding tissues become more rigid thereby causing an even further reduction in noise levels.

The most common side effect is when the implant is not inserted deeply enough and part of it protrudes into the mouth. The offending implant is simply removed and a new one inserted at a more suitable depth.

Because this proceedure is fairly new the implants longevity is unknown but it is thought to be in the region of years not months.

Sadly this snoring treatment has one large downside and that’s cost. It costs around $2,500 dollars so its definatly not cheap but sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.

If you’ve tried everything else and still snore like a wounded buffulo and you’ve the money to spare this may be one you’d like to try.

Sadly for myself it’s a bit rich so I’ll be sticking to the sleeping in seperate bedrooms for now as it’s much cheaper

Here’s some more good news- scientists Russia’s fantastically named ‘Institute for Laser Problems and Information Technology’ have found a way to use laser technology to help combat a widespread structural problem that a large number of people have- defects of the nasal septum. This is good news for snorers, as even a small defect in this part of the nasal region can lead to large complications, of which loud snoring is one of the more common.

Previously, this defect was very hard to correct without resorting to traditional surgical methods, and all the possible complications that this brought. A patient would have to suffer a major surgery, be fully anaesthetised, and more often than not would lose a lot of blood during the process. In a lot of cases, it often didn’t seem worth performing the operation, and so a lot of people with deviated septums wouldn’t be considered for treatment.

The new procedure developed by the Russian team is a massive step forwards from this old state of affairs. It involves concentrating the laser device on the specific areas of the tissue which need to be corrected, and has the advantage that none of the tissues around the key focal area are affected at all. It’s quick, effective, and almost entirely non-invasive.

It is also quick, as well- the procedure typically lasts between fifteen and twenty minutes, and because it’s a non-invasive procedure the patient doesn’t even have to be kept in a hospital to monitor and deal with surgical complications, healing of the incision and general side-effects like blood-loss. Most patients end up being sent straight home almost immediately after the surgery.

This is great news, and it’s good that snoring is one of the things that this technology is being looked at to counteract. It’s going to be used on a variety of different fields, from everything to cornea correction to helping to repair damaged arteries in the heart, and those are all equally if not more important, but still, it’s an important development for chronic snorers everywhere, with a surgical treatment coming more and more within people’s reach.

Sleeping problems have a massive effect on one’s life, leading to all kinds of health problems, including anxiety and depression, difficulties in concentration, and a variety of related physical problems. Insomnia has many sources, too.

It can be caused by stressful situations in life, or lifestyle issues such as jet lag, alcohol or caffeine intake. Anything which stops us from getting the right amount of sleep we need (seven to eight hours as an adult, eight to nine hours as an adolescent and six to eight for the elderly) is a bad thing indeed. Good sleep is something which deserves the highest priority, as much as exercise and diet.

Of course, exercise and diet are also key factors in assuring that your sleep is of a good quality. It’s a virtuous cycle- if you eat well and stay active, you’ll find that you find it a lot easier to get a good night’s sleep. Another good tip is to avoid distractions in your sleeping area, such as computers or other electronic equipment. The more dedicated your bedroom is to sleep, the more fit for purpose it will be. One of the most common issues with our modern lifestyles is that we do too much in our sleeping areas. If we are to optimise our capability for sleep, we should not be associating our bedrooms with activity like work, or entertainment.

A good way to ensure that you get a good night’s sleep is to establish a personal routine, switching off things like the TV well before you go to sleep, taking time to relax and to get your body ready to shut down. A common mistake people make is to think that they need to tire their minds out before going to sleep, and so they’ll end up playing games on their computers or reading till they can’t keep their eyes open.

This is just self-defeating behaviour- the more you are doing to keep your mind stimulated, the more likely you are to stay awake. The opposite is true- each night, you should be trying to let go of thoughts which keep your mind occupied, to gently drift off, and let yourself relax into a calm and peaceful night’s sleep.

There’s no definite, one-step solution to stopping snoring. What works for one person may not work for another. What’s more, some people’s snoring may be caused by an underlying condition. If this is the case, then you’re better off seeing a doctor.

All is not lost, however-here’s three simple tips that you can try yourself, to combat your snoring problem.

Here’s the big first tip; why not lose weight? A lot of people who snore, do so because their breathing passages are constricted due to a build-up of fatty deposits- think of it as the same as one’s arteries being congested. The simple truth is that the more fat you’ve got, the more places the body needs to store it. Slimming down by even 10 percent will help you solve this problem.

The next one- avoid alcohol, or sedatives like sleeping pills. This is because these act as muscle relaxants, which can help you to actually get to sleep, but will tend to make the soft tissues of the throat relax. This will then lead to closure of the airwaves, and an increased likelihood of snoring. It also reduces the quality of the sleep you actually get- somewhat counter-productive if you’re using sleeping pills, or alcohol, to try and get the sleep you need. What you need, is natural sleep.

The last tip is to stop smoking. Apart from all the other associated health benefits of giving up, smoking can often cause a person’s upper airways to become inflamed and swollen, which again leads to this narrowing effect, and an increased likelihood of snoring. If you give up, or even cut down, you’ll find that this effect goes away. Just another reason to quit, eh?

In fact, all three tips I’ve mentioned here have something in common- they’re all common-sense tips to living well in general. This is because very often, snoring is a symptom of something else. If you are living a healthy lifestyle and avoiding bad, damaging habits, then you will find that your snoring problem will lessen over time. It’s all about taking care of yourself. Isn’t it time you did that?

It’s actually fairly easy to make some of the changes you need to prevent snoring, as long as you have the right attitude. As long as you pay attention to the key points, like watching the food you eat, staying hydrated, getting exercise and sleeping in the right position, then you’ll be able to take control of your condition.

Furthermore, you may be able to prevent snoring by simply losing weight. One of the major medical factors in snoring, and Sleep Apnea, is obesity. Therefore, if you’re living well, eating good healthy food and taking regular exercise, you’re going to do a lot better at reducing snoring then if you rely solely on a snoring aid. A lot of anti-snoring products are wonderful, but it’s very important to live a good lifestyle.

Too many people don’t admit this to themselves, resorting to the easy way out of their sleeping problems. The only problem with these pills and sleeping tablets, is that whilst they can help you to fall asleep, this is often only a shallow sleep, as opposed to the deeper phases of sleep, REM sleep and deep sleep, which are the stages of sleep where the body is repaired. If snoring is an issue, this can be aggravated by sleeping pills and tranquillisers, as they make the mouth and throat relax.

Other problem factors can be the consumption of alcohol or coffee within four hours of going to sleep- any artificial stimulants, will be an issue. Also, rich or heavy food can overload the stomach and cause further problems. No need to become some kind of monk- it’s just about moderation. Think about drinking herbal teas in the evening instead of coffee, eating sensibly, and finding ways to get that little bit of exercise in each day.

These are good general tips for living your life, and getting a decent night’s sleep, and as a part of that, you’ll find your snoring problems will be alleviated as a consequence.

If you snore, and are looking for a way to stop it and give your partner some relief, it is vitally important to find the underlying cause, and to get it treated and resolved. Whilst a product can give you good relief from symptoms, snoring can often be caused by a more serious respiratory problem, which if left untreated can easily lead to further issues with interrupted breathing. These shouldn’t be ignored.

One of the major causes of respiratory illness is cigarette smoke, either directly or passively inhaled. This contains more than 3000 separate carcinogenic agents, such as arsenic, polonium, benzene, all of which can cause inflammation and narrowing of a person’s airways, and of course a whole slew of secondary damage throughout the body.

If you’re waking up with a cough and a dry or irritable throat, you may be suffering from sleep deprivation, which will can make you irritable, drowsy, and make you altogether less sharp. These kind of nocturnal respiratory problems can also be caused by asthma, emphysema or bronchitis.

You might also consider if you have any allergies to food, or to seasonal things like pollen, or animal allergies. Other environmental factors are things like air quality or poor ventilation in the places you live or work. Dust or mould in a bedroom or flat can be a major hidden cause of health problems, and can also negatively effect your mood.

Luckily, there are a wide variety of products and treatments which can help you reduce your snoring, and provide general respiratory relief. These range from nasal strips, nasal drops or sprays, chin straps, shaped pillows and more, but whilst these help it’s vital to figure out the environmental factors that may be the cause.

No, not those kinds of implants. Honestly, the filthy minds some people have! This is a sensible blog about sleep and snoring aids, remember, and we’re talking about an interesting new device called the Apex system, which has been developed by British scientists. It’s meant to be able to eradicate snoring in a user. The catch is, you have to get it surgically implanted into your body.

The way it works is though stimulation of the muscles which control the airways open during sleep. In essence, it’s sort of like a pacemaker for the respiratory system, working through the night to control muscles which are otherwise left to go limp, letting the soft tissues of the mouth and throat sag.

It’s currently under trial, but there’s still quite some way to go before we all have one of these nestling under our collar bones, keeping us right as we sleep. As you might imagine, not everyone has been comfortable with the idea of these matchbox-sized devices being implanted within their bodies (I’m certainly not that keen on the idea myself!), and there’s been some reports of test subjects feeling that the device itself feels a little uncomfortable to wear.

Still, the people developing this device are quietly confident it’ll be up and running by, ooh, 2013.

I’m not holding my breath, which is probably just as well. Sounds just a little bit like re-inventing the wheel if you ask me.

Still, any scientific research in this area is a good thing. I just don’t think the average snorer will be prepared to go to those lengths. Still, this is a world where plastic surgery is all the rage and perfectly sensible people pay huge amounts for grisly-sounding things like skin peels. At least this miracle device would actually do something.

There are lots of cures for snoring out there. You might be tempted to ask, why bother? After all, with the exception of Sleep Apnea, snoring isn’t dangerous. Plus, it’s just a bit of noise. Funny noise, perhaps, but there’s no harm in it, is there? Well, think again. This article takes a look at the ways in which Snoring can cause real problems.

It’s worth noting at the outset that snoring afflicts both men and women, of all ages, shapes and sizes. Technically, it’s classed as a sleep disorder, but it’s unusual amongst sleep disorders in so much as it isn’t always the snorer themselves who suffers. I think we all know what I’m talking about when I say that the real victim, in a lot of instances, is not the snorer, but the people around them. Let me tell you a true story about a friend of mine. We’ll call him Simon, as that was his name. He was a lovable guy, funny, intelligent, friendly, the life and soul of the party. He was also known for having the loudest snore of anyone I have EVER heard.

My friends and I would often go camping together, and it was a common experience for people to refuse to pitch their tent anywhere near Simon’s. You could always tell which tent was his, as there was a virtual cordon zone around it, a band of empty space separating Simon from all his friends. He never seemed to take this personally- in fact it was laughed about many a time. He would loudly protest that he never saw a problem with it, and that everyone else was making it up.

Simon seemed cheerfully unaffected by the fact that he snored so loud. He was, or at least he seemed to be, the kind of cheerful person who really didn’t mind being the butt of endless jokes about the noise he made. No-one ever thought any less of him, either.

But let’s think for a minute about what it would be like to be in the same bed as someone who snored that loud. A snorer doesn’t just snore, they can snore constantly, for extended periods of time. All through the night, in some cases. If you’re unfortunate to be kept awake by a snorer, imagine what it can feel like to lie there next to them, and unless you’re a remarkably tolerant or oblivious individual, it can be very hard indeed to get through a whole night’s sleep without being woken up. Now, we’ve all got different tolerance levels, but I know how I feel when I’ve had a few nights of broken sleep- I’m cranky, I can’t focus, and I really just want to lie down somewhere in peace.

Now, imagine that the reason you feel like that is because of your partner’s snoring. Imagine looking across at them at 3am as they slumber peacefully, making a noise that makes sleeping impossible for you. Think about how that would make you feel.

Now can you see why a Cure For Snoring is a good thing? If you snore, I guarantee you your partner certainly can!

If you have a problem with snoring, you may find that it can be almost entirely eradicated with the correctly chosen snoring aid. This is because the mechanisms which govern snoring are widely understood and easily influenced.

The benefits of these Anti Snoring Aids can be startling, especially for someone who has previously had to suffer in silence as you slumber away, making a sound that keeps them awake. It is worth mentioning that if you are finding you have a chronic problem with snoring, there may be some underlying issue, such as Sleep Apnea, or complications in the airways related to obesity. It is not the intent of this article to make you overlook these underlying health concerns which may be there. If you feel you have a medical problem it is almost always the best idea to ask a doctor. It is possible, however, to use these techniques or devices to alleviate the problems of snoring, whilst a long-term solution is sought.

For a lot of people, their snoring is caused by simple bad posture, often in the head and neck. This may be because they are sleeping on their back, or with their head at an angle on the pillow. This can be analogous to a garden hose being forced round a bend it doesn’t want to go- at that blockage point, a build-up of pressure is caused, leading to increased airflow across the soft tissues of the mouth. These vibrations are what we then term snoring.

An obvious solution to this is to keep the head elevated. An Anti Snoring Pillow will work well in this respect. These are usually made of a soft but resistant foam, and are designed to give the head and neck adequate support, keeping the windpipe and jaw aligned. These can take a while to get used to, but are not as restrictive as they might sound- they’re usually just a wedge shape which keeps your head tilted slightly upwards. If you’re the kind of person who moves around a bit in your sleep, there is also the ‘cradle’ variation on this, which keep the head from moving from side to side.

Another snoring aid is the nasal strip, or nasal dilator. There are two types of this device, one internal and one external. The more common external version is a small plastic strip with a rigid elastic spine to it which is coated with adhesive on one side, and is designed to fit onto the bridge of the nose, curving round to cover the nostrils. The elastic spine then pulls the nasal passages outwards, this making it easier to breathe through the nose. The internal version is like a plug which sits inside the nose, and performs the same role from within. In general, the external strips are seen as a little more comfortable, but some people find they benefit from the internal version more. As with anything, it’s a matter of personal choice.

There are also sprays which are designed to either clear blockages in the nose (if you are a nasal snorer) or are for helping to tighten the skin inside the mouth, making vibration less likely. These can be of use, but often do not address central aspects of the problem, and can wear off after time.

The last type of snoring aid out there is the physical supports- mouth guards and jaw protectors. These are designed to hold either the tongue or the jaw in one position, thus keeping the airways open.

As you have seen, there are a wide array of snoring aids available, and as with anything in life, the most important thing is to find what works for you.
